South Africa's Tutu renews vows after 60 years in wedlock

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — Retired archbishop Desmond Tutu, affectionately known to many South Africans as "Arch," kissed his bride of 60 years, Leah.

The lovebirds, as one clergyman described them, renewed their 1955 wedding vows this weekend in a buoyant ceremony in which 83-year-old Tutu, slower of step and speech than during his years as an impassioned opponent of apartheid, sashayed stiffly near the altar. Arms outstretched, he bent low as choristers belted out song in the Holy Cross Anglican Church in the Soweto area of Johannesburg.

The three-hour celebration on Saturday was a kind of homecoming for Tutu, who used to live near the church in a district that became a crucible for resistance to the white minority rule that ended in 1994. It was also a contemplation of love, marriage and family that ended with the Tutus' four children and other relatives surrounding the elderly couple.

SARABI – The Best Live performance outfit in East Africa.

The Eastlands Ghettos of Nairobi Kenya famously known for Crime and drugs is also home to SARABI, undoubtedly the best East African Live performance outfit. The seven young Men and a lady despite their young ages have over the years beaten all odds to cement a position amongst Africa’s greatest bands.

SARABI’s story begins in the tin and cotton houses, dark and dusty allies of Eastlands Ghettos. In these streets, dreams are shuttered and very few youngsters survive to celebrate their 18th Birthday. With the absence of music and arts education in schools, Sarabi’s musical Safari would never have started without the Haba na Haba art Center now VOCAL, founded by SARABI’s Manager George “Ndetcheh” Ndiritu in 1998. The center provided free practical performing arts classes for Children and youth and also provided leadership training. Kids who had an interest in Music where selected to join the Projects Music program and formed into different bands.

Tcheka;Singer, songwriter and guitarist, who is well known for his work in transposing the traditional Afro-creole folk rhythm Batuku to the electro-acoustic guitar.

TCHEKA

Tcheka grew up in a musical family. By age 14, Tcheka began playing with his famous violinist father, Nho Raul Andrade, at local festivals, weddings and baptisms. By the time Tcheka reached 15, he began developing his own style, incorporating the rhythms of Batuku with his guitar. As a young man, Tcheka left his rural home and went to live in the capital of Santiago island, Praia. He later became a cameraman for the national television, where he met journalist Julio Rodrigues, with whom he wrote a number of songs, and performed informally in the bars of the Capeverdean capital.tcheka2
Tcheka expanded his musical horizons, which brought him to maturity as an artist and led to the release of his first CD in 2003entitled Argui, by the record label Lusafrica. He performed in several European countries and he even recorded a live concert DVD in 2004. In 2005, Tcheka recorded his second album entitled Nu Monda, which was met with very good reviews and won him the Radio France International Music of the World Awards for Artist of the Year. Tcheka was a featured artist at the World Music Expo (WOMEX) in Seville, Spain.
