Gunmen Kill 7 in Attack on Iraqi Government Building

BAGHDAD — Gunmen wearing suicide belts raided a local government building in Samarra on Tuesday, killing four government employees and three police officers in a two-hour battle with security forces, Iraqi officials said. Four of the gunmen died in the fighting, and a fifth blew himself up inside the building, the officials said.

At least 35 people were wounded, officials said.

They said that the five insurgents were able to make their way into the building after another blew up himself at the entrance to the compound in Samarra, a city about 75 miles north of Baghdad.

Security forces stormed the compound and were able to free government employees who had been taken hostage by the gunmen, officials said.

Russia Defense Ministry 'pays attention' to Pentagon’s decision to suspend military ties

Russia's Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov commented to Russian reporters on the Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby's statement on the decision to suspend cooperation with the Russian military over the current situation in Ukraine. "We have taken note of this statement, as well as statements made by highly-placed military officials from other countries," Antonov said.

"Our position is that any interaction, especially along the lines of the military, may only be mutually advantageous and based on the principle of strict parity. Such an approach can produce neither winners, nor losers," he said. "We think that communication between the military enhances mutual trust and makes intents and actions clearer. Ultimately, moves made by either side become more predictable and state security is enhanced," Antonov said.

"Concerning the Pentagon's decision, it is the American side's choice. We have taken note of it," he said. It was reported earlier that the US Department of Defense (DoD) froze military cooperation, including exercises, bilateral meetings, port visits and planning conferences, with Russia over the situation in Ukraine.

"We have, in light of recent events in Ukraine, put on hold all military-to-military engagements between the United States and Russia," DoD press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement, noting that he values military cooperation with Russia that has developed in recent years to increase transparency, build understanding and reduce the risk of military miscalculation.

"We call on Russia to de-escalate the crisis in Ukraine and for Russian forces in Crimea to return to their bases, as required under the agreements governing the Russia Black Sea Fleet," he added. At the same time, there has been no change in US posture in Europe nor the Mediterranean Sea, he said.

Warner Bros. To Reissue Jay Z & Linkin Park’s “Collision Course” For Record Store Day

Collision Course, the 2004 joint project from rapper Jay Z and rock band Linkin Park, is set to be reissued as part of the annual Record Store Day.

The mash-up album that featured cuts like “Numb/Encore,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying from You,” and “Izzo/In the End” is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

To mark the milestone, Warner Brothers Records is releasing a special edition Colored Transparent Blue vinyl and a DVD of their concert in 2004.

The Collision Course reissue will be available on Record Store Day (April 19th).

Police Identify & Charge Suspect In Rick Ross Album Release Party Shooting

Shots rang out at Rick Ross’ Mastermindalbum release party featuring Sean “Diddy” Combs in Atlanta over the weekend. DeKalb County police have now identified the suspect in the shooting at the Velvet Room nightclub.

According to authorities, the club’s DJ Ronald Robinson was the person who fired at officers on the scene. Reportedly, two uniformed off duty cops serving as security heard gunfire behind the venue. When they went outside to investigate, Robinson then shot at them. The officers returned fire hitting the 39-year-old in the leg.

“He was able to get up from his injuries and go inside the club. The officers found him inside injured and took him into custody,” said DeKalb County Police Chief Cedric Alexander.

Robinson was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer.

DeKalb police do not believe Ross or Diddy were involved in the shooting.
